Located on seven hills at the mouth of the Tagus (Tahoe) River at the place of its confluence with the Atlantic Ocean. Lisbon is the westernmost capital of continental Europe.
The most spectacular area of Lisbon is located on a slope between the castle of St. George and the Tagus River. Alfama survived the Lisbon earthquake of 1755 and retained its structure of narrow and winding streets, as well as a noticeable number of attractions.
